Opened in 2011 at a cost of $7.2 Million, Harless Stadium is one of the largest high school stadiums in southern West Virginia. Home to the Miners of Mingo Central High School, the field came to be after the consolidation of Burch, Gilbert, Matewan, and Williamson High Schools in the summer of 2011. Known for its incredible sunsets and high altitude, the field sees much colder temperatures in early Fall and has a tendency to have some of the harshest weather conditions for high school football in West Virginia. The stadium sees use for the Mingo County Middle School Football Championships, Mingo County Special Olympics, and numerous playoff games for both MCHS and nearby Tug Valley High School. The stadium was funded entirely by James H. 'Buck' Harless, a local entrepreneur who valued the future of education in Mingo County and the locker rooms/weight room complex was funded by the Shewey Family.
